NAU nurse practitioner clinicals, state by state
Most NAU nurse practitioner students live in Arizona, but NAU also enrolls RNs in other states, and each state changes the licensing picture for clinicals. Arizona and its five neighbors come first; every other guide gives NAU's licensure table answer, the license you need for clinicals there and the local NP precepting rules.

What NAU's licensure table tells you
For the MS FNP, the MS PMHNP and the FNP certificate, NAU's table answers Meets in every state except seven: Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin. The PMHNP certificate adds Kansas. NAU still admits students located in those states, who attest that they plan to work somewhere else.

Can I enroll in NAU's NP program if I live outside Arizona?
NAU is a SARA member and serves students in other states, including California. Its licensure table flags seven states where the NP plans do not meet licensure education requirements, and students there sign an attestation that they intend to work elsewhere.
Where can NAU graduate students do clinicals?
NAU's pages describe clinicals throughout Arizona, while its license rules expect some students to live elsewhere. No NAU source settles graduate clinicals outside Arizona, so confirm your plan with your program coordinator before you approach sites.
Why does Kansas look different in NAU's table?
The MS tracks and the FNP certificate read Meets for Kansas, but the PMHNP graduate certificate reads Does Not Meet, a change that appeared in NAU's 2026 table.
What happens if I move while enrolled?
NAU asks students to report a new physical location each term through LOUIE or the Change of Location form, and to contact their program about any effect on practicum placements. A move into a Does Not Meet state can affect your plans.
