NAU's online NP programs for Georgia nurses
Yes, you can study with Northern Arizona University from Georgia. NAU's licensure table lists all four of its nurse practitioner plans as meeting Georgia's education requirements. Georgia's Board of Nursing approves only pre-licensure programs, so the rules that shape your clinicals there concern licenses: yours, your preceptor's and the Georgia APRN authorization the Board expects of whoever does the clinical teaching.

Meets is NAU's finding that its NP coursework supplies the education Georgia wants before it authorizes an APRN, for both specialties and both entry routes. How Georgia treats NP students from other states
Nothing about an Arizona NP program has to pass through Georgia's Board before you start clinicals there, because the Board's approval role ends at pre-licensure education.
The Board regulates people instead. If you live in Georgia and train there for a school based elsewhere, it looks for one of two licenses: Georgia's own RN license, or a compact multistate license from another member state. Your teachers face that same test, whether they supervise you in the clinic or teach over a screen. For APRN students the Board goes further: whoever does the clinical instruction should be a nurse holding Georgia APRN authorization.
That reads narrower than Arizona's standard, which NAU applies and which also admits physician preceptors (compare the preceptor rules). If your best nearby candidate is a physician, show Georgia's wording to the FNP Program Coordinator first.
Restricted practice and where Georgia NP students look
AANP files Georgia under restricted practice. Georgia NPs practice only with a physician delegating to or supervising them, and the state narrows what they may prescribe from Schedule II. The NP who precepts you teaches inside that arrangement, a real contrast with Arizona, whose statute asks for no collaborating physician.
Metro Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell holds about 6.5 million residents. Piedmont Healthcare and Wellstar Health System both run large networks there; so do Emory Healthcare and Grady Health System, and Northside Hospital is another major name. Savannah, Augusta and Columbus are the other main markets. Each runs its own student intake; treat the names as a map of Georgia care, not a roster of NAU sites.
Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program gives Georgia-licensed APRNs, physicians, dentists and PAs a state tax credit for unpaid community-based teaching, and HB 144 reworked the program, lengthened its life and made preceptors register every year starting in 2026. The credit follows students of Georgia-based programs only, so a preceptor who teaches you earns none of it.
Licenses for Georgia clinical hours
Georgia's compact licenses date from January 19, 2018. A Georgia multistate license clears NAU's admission rule, which accepts Arizona licenses and compact privileges alike, and it satisfies Arizona's rule that NAU verify a clean RN license wherever your clinical hours happen. Georgia has passed no APRN Compact law, so practicing there after graduation means applying for Georgia's own APRN authorization. NAU's NP programs also call for Arizona's IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card wherever you live; the card guide covers applying from outside Arizona.
One NAU question stays open: its pages talk about clinicals throughout Arizona while its license rules and SARA membership assume students elsewhere, and no NAU document says whether graduate clinicals may happen in Georgia. Does NAU's online FNP program lead to licensure in Georgia?
NAU's licensure table marks the MS FNP and the FNP certificate as Meets for Georgia, and both PMHNP plans too. That is NAU's finding that the education fits Georgia's requirements. You would still apply to Georgia's licensing division for APRN authorization after graduating, then practice under the physician delegation Georgia requires.
Is Georgia Board approval needed for NAU to place me in a Georgia clinic?
No Board approval applies, because Georgia's Board reviews pre-licensure programs only. Its conditions sit on licenses: yours must be Georgia or multistate, and APRN clinical teaching must come from a Georgia-authorized APRN. Whether NAU itself allows Georgia clinicals is a separate question, and your program coordinator answers it.
Will my Georgia preceptor get a tax credit for precepting an NAU student?
Not for your rotation. The Preceptor Tax Incentive Program counts only students in Georgia-based medical, dental, PA and NP programs. Georgia's revenue department still posts the earlier terms while Augusta University's AHEC reflects HB 144, so a preceptor weighing the credit for other students should compare the two pages.
Could I do clinical hours in Chattanooga or across the Alabama line?
Only under that state's rules. The Chattanooga metro reaches into north Georgia, but a clinic in the city itself is in Tennessee, where a 2026 bill would pause Board approvals for out-of-state programs; read the Tennessee guide.
