Enrolling from New York is still possible if you attest that your working future lies in another state. New York adds its own hurdle: out-of-state programs need State Education Department registration before their students train there.

NAU's New York rows, plan by plan
NAU has found that these programs fall outside New York's education requirements for licensure. New York is one of five states where NAU's BSN rows fail as well, with Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas.

NYSED decides who trains inside New York
New York licenses nurses through the State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which works with a State Board for Nursing. Schools based in other states, and online programs, need NYSED registration or approval before placing a single student in a New York clinical rotation. NYSED carves out only federal sites: VA and U.S. Armed Forces facilities.
For NP students, NYSED checks that the NP program itself is registered, and its NP FAQ warns that training outside a registered program may even be unlawful. Another NYSED office treats a licensed-profession clinical placement as physical presence needing the Office of the Professions' prior approval or exemption, SARA or not.
No NAU or NYSED page found in research says whether NAU's NP programs are registered. Ask your program coordinator, and have NYSED's Office of the Professions confirm, before you approach a New York practice.
How New York NPs practice and precept
AANP rates New York full practice with a threshold: for its first 3,600 hours, a new NP keeps a written collaborative agreement and protocols with a physician. NAU's separate test, Arizona rule R4-19-502, is set out on the preceptor requirements page.
About 13 million state residents are in the metro around New York City. Northwell Health, Mount Sinai Health System, NewYork-Presbyterian and NYC Health + Hospitals rank among the state's largest systems. Upstate, Rochester has the University of Rochester Medical Center, while Buffalo and Albany are the other big markets.
Your RN license from New York
New York holds no compact membership and has no bill pending to add one. NYSED points RNs licensed elsewhere to its own New York checklist, since a multistate license from another state stops at the New York line.
Because NAU admits on an Arizona license, on eligibility for one, or on a license satisfying Arizona's multistate rules, and a New York license is single-state, New York nurses go the Arizona route. When the attestation route makes sense
The attestation suits a New York nurse whose NP license will come from another state, say, after a planned move to New Jersey or Connecticut, both Meets in NAU's table. If NP certification in New York is the goal, NAU's table says these programs miss that state's education rules, and NYSED's certification page, which NAU links, is the authority.
Where your practicum hours land, whether 780 FNP hours in NUR 663 and its two sister practicums or PMHNP hours in the in-person NUR 680, is NAU's call. NAU's web pages picture clinical work across Arizona, and nothing NAU publishes settles graduate practicums in another state, so confirm with your program coordinator and read the state authorization guide before a move.

Questions NAU students ask
Can I enroll in NAU's online FNP program from New York?
Yes. Nothing NAU publishes bars New York applicants. Because every NP plan reads Does Not Meet there and you live in New York when you first enroll, you will be asked to attest that you plan to work outside New York, and an automated disclosure email arrives beforehand.
Could I log NAU clinical hours at a VA hospital in New York?
NYSED's registration rule exempts federal VA and U.S. Armed Forces facilities, so that state rule alone would not block the rotation. NAU still decides whether to place you there, and like any clinical site it would need an affiliation agreement with NAU. Raise the idea with your program coordinator before you contact anyone.
I live in New York but will move to New Jersey. Which row counts?
NAU's policy goes by your state on the day you first enroll. Living in New Jersey by then means its Meets row applies and no attestation is needed. After enrolling, a move means updating LOUIE and telling your program, since NAU says it can affect licensure, aid and enrollment.
Does NAU's BSN meet New York's requirements?
No. NAU lists all four BSN formats, Traditional, Compressed, Global and Accelerated, as Does Not Meet for New York. Maryland and Wisconsin differ: their NP rows fail while their BSN rows pass. NAU assigns BSN clinical sites itself, and the BSN clinicals page covers the formats and campuses.
