New Jersey in NAU's licensure table
In NAU's terms, Meets means the NP curricula satisfy New Jersey's licensure education standard; the BSN formats pass there too. NAU applies its disclosure rule by your location at first enrollment, so if home is New Jersey but your shifts are in Manhattan or Philadelphia, New Jersey's row is the one on your record.

Joint protocols and who precepts
AANP's label for New Jersey is reduced practice. Before a New Jersey NP orders a medication or a device, joint protocols signed with a collaborating physician have to exist, so a physician relationship is built into NP prescribing. For you, that can mean two candidate preceptors under one roof. NAU's standard, Arizona rule R4-19-502, takes either one given a year in practice, a comparable population focus and, for nurses, national certification; the preceptor requirements page has details.
Population splits between two giant metros. Census figures count 7.1 million New Jerseyans in the northern, New York-facing metro and 1.4 million in the Philadelphia-facing south, with Trenton-Princeton and Atlantic City-Hammonton each forming a smaller metro. Names you will hear during a search: RWJBarnabas Health; the Hackensack Meridian network; Atlantic Health System; Virtua; and Camden's Cooper University Health Care.
Out-of-state programs under New Jersey's rules
Nowhere in the New Jersey nursing rules we read does a school from another state have to seek approval or file notice first. The Board's rule chapter, 13:37, accredits programs at institutions the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education licenses, and its one clause about clinical agencies looks outward, at New Jersey schools using sites in other states. One caveat: the Board's site returned a CAPTCHA page when this guide was researched, so guidance posted there is unchecked.
NAU's own rule is the bigger unknown. The university speaks of clinicals throughout Arizona and publishes nothing on graduate practicums in other states, so the question goes to your program coordinator; the state authorization guide covers SARA.

Your license: a compact state since 2021
Since Nov. 15, 2021, New Jersey has participated in the Nurse Licensure Compact. Hold a multistate New Jersey license and you satisfy NAU's admission language and can log RN hours in Arizona; for practicums anywhere else, check that the host state honors it. Trenton has not adopted the APRN Compact, so once you finish at NAU, NP certification is sought one state at a time. The RN license guide lays NAU's versions side by side.

Questions NAU students ask
Is New Jersey a Meets state for NAU's PMHNP certificate?
Yes, and for the MS PMHNP emphasis as well; the two FNP rows match. Kansas is where NAU's PMHNP certificate parts ways with the MS, and New Jersey shows no such split. Remember that Meets is about licensure education. Your program coordinator decides where the clinical hours themselves happen.
Could a New Jersey resident log NAU hours in Manhattan?
Only if New York's rule is satisfied. NYSED lets a program from another state, or an online one, rotate students through New York only after registering or approving it, with federal VA and Armed Forces sites set apart. No published statement shows NAU holding that status. Keeping the practicum in New Jersey avoids that question, although NAU still approves the site.
Does New Jersey's practice model narrow my preceptor options?
Less than you might think. NAU's test stays the same: an unencumbered license valid where the preceptor works, a year of experience and a comparable population focus. What changes is the setting, since prescribing NPs in New Jersey keep joint protocols with a physician, which can give one practice two qualified candidates.
Will my New Jersey nursing license work for NAU?
A multistate one will for admission, since NAU accepts an Arizona license, eligibility for one, or a license meeting Arizona's multistate rules; it also covers RN hours in Arizona. With a single-state license, plan on the Arizona license route instead. For a practicum in some other state, confirm that state honors your license.
