South Carolina's approval regulation for outside programs was written around first-time licensure candidates and never mentions APRN programs, which leaves NAU's own rules, your program coordinator and a well-chosen preceptor at the center of your plan.

Practice agreements and the South Carolina preceptor
South Carolina sits in AANP's restricted category. Practice agreements with physicians cover the delegated acts South Carolina NPs perform, and controlled-substance prescriptions come with supply limits. So every NP preceptor there brings a physician partner along, and that physician could precept you directly.
Whoever it is must satisfy NAU's Arizona-based preceptor rule, R4-19-502, which our preceptor requirements page walks through. The FNP Program Coordinator approves each person, whatever their South Carolina practice arrangement.
What Regulation 91-6 reaches
Regulation 91-6 (S.C. Code Regs.) is about schools headquartered in other states that run South Carolina clinicals for students heading toward a first nursing license. Before those clinicals, the school needs South Carolina Board approval; it must also keep full approval at home, keep its own faculty on site throughout each shift, licensed in South Carolina or another compact state, sign a written clinical affiliation agreement and apply South Carolina's rules to any precepted experience. Under R.91-6(C) it reports any change in compliance in writing within 15 days.
Nothing in it mentions APRN or RN-to-BSN education. You already hold an RN license, so those conditions describe someone else's situation. Confirm the plan with your program coordinator, and read state authorization for NAU's SARA footing.
The preceptor tax credit, and who it leaves out
S.C. Code § 12-6-3800 (from 2019 Act No. 45, amended by 2024 Act No. 217) gives uncompensated physicians, APRNs and PAs an income tax credit per qualifying rotation, capped at four rotations, and a deduction for up to six beyond that. To qualify, a preceptor handles two or more rotations each year, each at least 160 hours, takes part in Medicaid and sees 100 or more Medicaid and Medicare patients combined. The 2024 act extends the credit through tax year 2029; SCDOR Revenue Ruling #20-2 still lists the original January 1, 2026 repeal.
Qualifying rotations are limited to students enrolled in South Carolina's own schools, public or independent, so an NAU rotation falls outside it.
Where South Carolina NP students look
Greenville-Anderson-Greer edges out Charleston-North Charleston and Columbia as the largest metro, and a slice of greater Charlotte lies in South Carolina too. Prisma Health and MUSC Health lead the list of big systems; Lexington Health, which runs Lexington Medical Center, joins McLeod Health and Roper St. Francis Healthcare behind them. Student rules vary system to system, and this page claims no NAU relationship with any of them.
Your RN license in South Carolina
South Carolina's compact membership runs from Jan. 19, 2018. Hold a South Carolina multistate license and you can work at home or across into compact neighbors like North Carolina; NAU accepts it for admission because it satisfies Arizona's multistate rules. NAU's wording of the license rule, and how it changed after 2021, is on the RN license guide. The APRN Compact is not law in South Carolina, so your future NP license is a South Carolina application.

Does precepting an NAU student earn a South Carolina tax credit?
No. The law counts only rotations for students at South Carolina's public and independent colleges, and NAU is an Arizona university. That makes the ask a professional favor, which is why we hand the preceptor a complete, organized request.
Does Regulation 91-6 apply to NAU's NP program?
The regulation speaks to first-licensure programs from other states and is silent on APRN education, and NAU's NP students are licensed RNs already. Whether NAU itself allows a South Carolina practicum is a separate, NAU-side question for your program coordinator.
Can a South Carolina resident near Charlotte train across the state line?
Your licensure row follows where you live, which is South Carolina, a Meets state. Can a physician assistant precept me in South Carolina?
Not for NAU. The state's tax credit counts PA preceptors for South Carolina schools' students, but NAU applies Arizona's rule, which asks for an RN or physician license and experience as a physician or advanced practice nurse. NAU's 2021-22 Green Form listed MD, DO, FNP or other, so aim for NPs and physicians.
