Northern Arizona University's licensure table lists Nebraska as Meets for all four of its nurse practitioner plans, so a nurse in Omaha, Lincoln or Grand Island can work toward the FNP or PMHNP online from home. Nebraska's regulators leave graduate clinical education to the school, and a Nebraska multistate license already reaches into Arizona.

NAU's licensure answer for Nebraska
Every NP row NAU publishes for Nebraska reads Meets, and its four BSN formats say the same. For the licensing contact, NAU points to the nurse licensing pages of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, whose Licensure Unit handles credentials for the Board of Nursing.

Graduate clinicals under Nebraska's rules
Nebraska separates programs by the license they lead to. DHHS explains that only programs preparing someone for an initial license go through Board approval; a school whose students are headed for the NCLEX and are placed in Nebraska should get in touch with the Board. Programs for nurses who hold a license already sit outside the Board's regulation whether they run online or on campus, so no Nebraska approval step applies to a graduate NP practicum.
Two expectations remain. DHHS applies NCSBN's view that practice occurs where the student is physically located, and it wants faculty who teach APRN students in the state to carry Nebraska APRN licensure. Preceptor arrangements are made between the school and each facility, and in post-licensure education the qualifications a preceptor needs are the school's call. For you, NAU's own standard decides whether a Nebraska clinician qualifies.

Who can precept you, and where Nebraska students look
Nebraska counts as full practice on AANP's map once a new NP finishes 2,000 transition-to-practice hours alongside a supervising provider. Once through it, Nebraska NPs run their own panels and can precept next to physicians, provided each one clears NAU's preceptor requirements: a year of clinical experience, a population focus that matches yours and, for nurses, national certification.
NP students in the state tend to begin with the three metro areas, Omaha, Lincoln and the smaller Grand Island. The larger organizations they research include Nebraska Medicine and CHI Health, plus Bryan Health and the Nebraska Methodist Health System. Children's Nebraska, a pediatric system, is a natural lead for FNP students chasing the pediatric share of the 780 hours spread over NUR 661, NUR 663 and NUR 665. Every one of them sets its own terms for students; they appear here only as starting points for a search.
Research turned up no Nebraska preceptor grant or tax credit.
Your RN license for a Nebraska practicum
Nebraska has been a compact state since Jan. 19, 2018. If you live in Nebraska and hold a multistate license issued there, that single credential works in Nebraska and in Arizona alike, satisfying NAU's admission wording and the requirement that your RN license be good in the state of clinical practice. The APRN Compact is another story. Nebraska has not enacted it, so after certification you apply to Nebraska for an APRN license in its own right. Also watch the boards: DHHS rosters from July 2026 drop the old advanced practice board as its own body and list APRN members among the Board of Nursing's seats. No statute confirming the change was found, so check DHHS when you apply.

Questions NAU students ask
Can I take NAU's online FNP program while living in Nebraska?
NAU's licensure table says yes: both MS tracks and both graduate certificates read Meets for Nebraska, meaning NAU considers the curriculum sufficient for Nebraska NP licensure. Where your clinical hours may be completed is a separate matter to confirm with your program coordinator, because NAU's published clinical guidance centers on Arizona sites.
Must NAU register with Nebraska before my practicum starts?
Research found no such step for graduate programs. Nebraska DHHS limits program approval to pre-licensure education and says post-licensure programs fall outside its regulation. Its one ask of outside programs concerns faculty: whoever instructs an APRN student located in Nebraska ought to be licensed there as an APRN, which is NAU's matter to arrange.
Will I need an Arizona license if I live in Nebraska?
Usually not, if your Nebraska license is multistate. Nebraska and Arizona are compact partners, and NAU's admission rules accept a license that meets Arizona's multistate regulations. A single-state Nebraska license is a different case, so ask a graduate nursing advisor whether you also need an Arizona license.
Does the APRN Compact help Nebraska NP graduates?
Not at present. Nebraska has not enacted it, and in 2026 NCSBN said it was working with boards of nursing to redesign the compact. Plan on a Nebraska APRN license after certification, and a separate license for any other state.
