Meets is NAU's finding on licensure education, and the BSN rows match it. What it leaves open is where your practicum happens, a question that in Massachusetts runs through the Board of Registration in Nursing's approval process below, and through NAU itself.

Part A and Part B: the Board's two approvals
The rule in play is 244 CMR 6.03(2). Its trigger is a school headquartered outside Massachusetts, and its reach covers classroom-style teaching as well as clinical learning done on Massachusetts soil. As the Board lays it out, the sequence runs like this.
- Part A, once a yearThe school seeks parent-institution approval at least six months ahead of any clinical placement in the state.
- Part B, per placementEach student placement needs its own filing, lodged no less than 30 days out.
- A letter before day oneStudents start only once the Board has issued its approval letter.
- Changes on a clockAny edit to a placement is due a fortnight ahead of its start, and the Board expects word of changes within seven days.
Read closely, the Board's criteria picture a prelicensure school whose graduates sit the NCLEX, and nothing on that page speaks to master's-level NP tracks. Its supervision ratios, which let a preceptor oversee two students and a faculty member ten, fit that same prelicensure picture. Precepting in the Commonwealth
Full practice is AANP's rating for Massachusetts, but it follows what amounts to an apprenticeship: two years in which a qualifying physician or APRN supervises the new NP, a stretch that equivalent experience can sometimes replace. NAU's own test for preceptors lives on the preceptor requirements page.
Greater Boston accounts for some 4.58 million residents of the state. Next in size come Worcester, then the Massachusetts towns inside the Providence-Warwick metro at about 594,000, then Springfield. Expect a search to cross paths with Mass General Brigham; with Beth Israel Lahey Health; and with UMass Memorial, Baystate and the Boston Medical Center Health System. Research recorded no Massachusetts incentive for preceptors.
Your license while the compact waits
On paper, Massachusetts joined the Nurse Licensure Compact through a law passed in November 2024. On the ground, nothing changes until the Board completes implementation, which it is targeting for May 2027. The FBI gave conditional approval to the state's background checks in May 2026, and NCSBN's implementation column for Massachusetts still says TBD. Meanwhile, nurses holding multistate licenses from other states gain no right to practice in Massachusetts.
In practice that means a Massachusetts license for any hours logged there, and, because Massachusetts licenses are single-state for now, the Arizona license route for NAU admission. No APRN Compact law exists in Massachusetts either. The RN license guide sets out NAU's wording.

Questions NAU students ask
Does NAU's MS PMHNP meet Massachusetts licensure requirements?
Yes, along with the other three NP plans NAU lists for Massachusetts. The answer concerns licensure education. PMHNP students should also know that NUR 680 requires in-person engagement, and NAU decides where that happens, so raise location early with your program coordinator.
When will Massachusetts honor multistate nursing licenses?
Only once implementation is finished. The Board of Registration in Nursing has May 2027 in its sights, with conditional FBI approval of its background checks in hand since May 2026, while NCSBN has yet to post a date. Until the Board announces the change, nurses follow the regular Massachusetts license application, so plan on a Massachusetts license for hours there.
Does 244 CMR 6.03 apply to NP programs like NAU's?
Unclear. The Board's out-of-state page is written around schools whose graduates take the NCLEX, and it never mentions nurse practitioner education. That leaves the question open for NP clinicals. NAU, as the school, is the party that would work it out with the Board, so ask your program coordinator.
How far ahead should a Massachusetts clinical be planned?
Further than you think. If the Board's process applies, Part A has to be filed half a year before the first placement and each Part B a month before its start. NAU adds its own clock: the Green Form carries term deadlines, with both published versions on the Green Form guide, and clinical documents are due two months before the rotation. Start the preceptor search well before any of those.
