One college, several names

The college now carries the names of Maria and Steve Sanghi, and NAU shortens it to CON. You will meet older names constantly: the 2021-22 and 2022-23 clinical handbooks say School of Nursing, some pages say College of Nursing, and the 2023-24 catalog filed nursing under the College of Health and Human Services. None of the pages reviewed for this guide gives the date of the change.

The names matter in practice because most of the clinical detail NP students rely on lives in those archived handbooks. When a guideline says the SON will start an affiliation agreement, read it as the college you are enrolled in today. When a site's office manager asks where you study, the full current name, Northern Arizona University's Maria and Steve Sanghi College of Nursing, is the one to give.

The statewide clinical map

The college's reach runs well past its campuses. Flagstaff BSN students train in Flagstaff, Tuba City, Kingman and the Verde Valley, with Prescott Valley and Cottonwood also named. Yuma students gain experience at Yuma Regional Medical Center and other community organizations. The Global BSN lists partner regions in every corner of the state, from Page and Winslow in the north to Sierra Vista in the south and Show Low, Globe, Safford, Springerville and Eagar in the east.

Partnerships reach into the community college system too. The Concurrent Enrollment Program works with Arizona Western, Central Arizona, Cochise, Coconino, Maricopa, Mohave, Northland Pioneer, Pima and Yavapai. An older NAU clinicals page listed training locations such as Gallup and Navajo Nation sites alongside Phoenix and Yuma.

Finding the right person inside the college

The college's advising page splits undergraduate and graduate advising, and current students book through NAU's online appointment scheduler. Graduate advisors help with admissions, coursework and support resources.

For clinicals, the 2022-23 guidelines name the FNP Program Coordinator as the person who approves preceptors and makes the final placement decision, the Clinical Placement Coordinator as the keeper of the Green Form, and course faculty as NAU's liaison with each agency. One practical note from the graduate application page: Chromebooks, iPads and similar devices are incompatible with the college's required software. Plan on a full laptop before your first term.
